We Met During My Senior Six Vacation: Lydia & Roy

Descriptions of love at first sight are by their very nature extremely subjective. Over time I have come to believe that some people do recognize a vital love relationship very quickly and like some say, instantly. Love at first, a story Lydia and Roy share.

Uchumi supermarket may have closed its doors in Uganda, but it will forever remain a very important piece of Roy Cosmas Kanyike and Nandigobe Lydia’s memories simply because that’s where they met.

Clad in a blue dress and African sandals, Lydia, a form six vacist (at the time) strode across the now defunct Uchumi supermarket at Garden City mall, making her shopping when her sharp small eyes stumbled on a lady killer. There he was, Roy Kanyike staring back at her as though he was looking at a familiar face.

“It was in 2008 when I was in my senior six vacation. So one evening I went for shopping at Uchumi Garden City Mall and as I was moving around the stalls looking for small…small stuff, I bumped into this young handsome man,” Lydia, an events manager at LN Events reminisces.

“I don’t know how it all came up but I think I captured his sight too. So he said, ‘hey’ with a big smile as though he had known me before and I too replied,” she said before adding that “he gave me his business card, requesting to meet another time.” Just imagine a young innocent face blushing in front of a procurement officer (Roy’s occupation).

Afraid to break home curfew, Lydia returned to a familiar territory (Garden City Mall) a month later, after playing hide and seek or hard to get the like many put, where she and Roy met again for a cup of coffee and from that day forth, she never looked back.

She and her spouse had been together for eight years before he asked for her hand in marriage. Lydia, a mother of a four months old baby girl acquainted the love of her life to relatives, family members and friends at her parents’ home in Namayumba, Kyabazaala in Mukono district on Saturday 29th April 2017.

Lydia advises couples planning to get hitched “to make sure that they get married to someone they understand best and who understands them as well.”

“Secondly, get the right service providers on board and the function will be a work over.” Good enough you don’t have to worry looking for the good ones because www.mikolo.co.ug has listed for you the best service providers and vendors in the event industry on one platform.
