If you are looking for sweet smiles, innocent looks and uninhibited laughs, there is nowhere else to look but at the flower girl and page boy. Because of this, these two or at least one of them have found their way to most bridal entourages.
But these little angles also come with some trouble. They are quite unpredictable and have the potential to mess up an otherwise great function. Imagine if one or them wails through the vows or decides to fall into the pool at you perfect poolside wedding!
So as we pick these little ones, we should remember what makes them happy is quite different from what makes adults happy. Below are some tips on how to keep the little ones happy at your wedding.
1. Get familiar
Meet the children before the wedding day to gain their trust. Once you win their trust, they will easily listen to and follow instructions on the D- day.
2. Get comfortable wear
For children, comfort comes first. If the shoes are ill-fitting, the little one will definitely take them off. And you don’t want to dress a young girl in high heeled shoes. Simple fashionable ballet shoes are usually a safe choice. Do bear in mind they will have to use the bathroom several times in the day.
3. Have a meal before the function
Depending on what time the function is, it’s best to have a light meal before the function so that the child is not hungry. It is also wise to carry around some simple snacks and drinks to them to eat in between.
4. Take them to the washroom before the function
Children are tricky, sometimes if they are with unfamiliar people they tend to keep quiet. Ask the child to go for a short call before the wedding ceremony starts. This will prevent you from being embarrassed.
5. Have a familiar face in the vicinity
Let the mother or any relative sit where the child can easily see them. This will give them a sense of security. As the familiar person keeps encouraging the little one to do what is right, you can be sure your function will be sorted.
6. Let them be children
At the end of the day, remember the attention span of the child is quite short. Don’t let this get to you and ruin your day. Let them play and draw them back to you with a warm smile. A reprimand on such a day will just bring tears and mess things up.
How else have you managed to get the flower girl and page boy to be happy on a wedding day?
