7 ways to handle wedding planning stress

All brides go through some amount of stress because, let's face it: putting together the perfect wedding isn't an easy thing to do. So here are a few tips on how you can deal with your wedding planning stress and create the wedding of your dreams.

It doesn't matter what people say, wedding planning stress is a very real thing. So if you're a bride to be, know that what you're going through right now (or will go through in the future) is normal.

All brides go through some amount of stress because, let's face it: putting together the perfect wedding isn't an easy thing to do.

So here are a few tips on how you can deal with your wedding planning stress and create the wedding of your dreams.

  1. COMMUNICATE CLEARLY: It's your wedding. Speak up. You don't like the flowers the decorator is suggesting you use? Say you don't like the flowers. You want to wear pale yellow to your wedding? Tell your mother you want to wear pale yellow. It really doesn't help anyone if you don't tell them what's on your mind. Being clear on what you want (or more importantly, don't want) can help save you a lot of unnecessary wedding planning stress in the months leading up to your big day!

  2. BE REALISTIC: Every bride, including you, has probably imagined her perfect wedding day since she was a little girl. But imagination can sometimes be a tad different from reality. Do you know what a nightmare managing a hundred white doves would be at a wedding? Be realistic when it comes to planning your wedding. Don't plan to have hand painted wedding cards for five hundred guests if you're getting married in three months! Plan a wedding that can be executed without any additional panic and stress.

  3. DELEGATE: Yes, you're the bride and yes, you know exactly what you want for your wedding. But it is impossible to single-handedly plan and organize an entire wedding without going crazy! The easiest way to deal with wedding planning stress is to delegate. You can still take care of all the important stuff like your wedding cards, your wedding outfit and even your caterer. But get your best friend, your sister, even your cousins if you have to, to take care of other various small aspects of the wedding. It'll free you up and make your wedding planning so much less stressful!

  4. PLAN AHEAD: It helps to make a checklist of everything you'll need to get done by your wedding day and work through that. By planning ahead, you'll be able to avoid last minute panic and have a stress-free wedding. And so if you know you're leaving for your honeymoon the day after you get married, pack all your bags in advance. That way you can get married knowing you don't have to spend your wedding night looking for your favourite swimsuit!

  5. USE THE INTERNET: There is more to the internet than Twitter and Facebook! The World Wide Web is full of resources that help brides-to-be plan their wedding better. Use it. Go online; look our website (www.mikolo.co.ug) we offer, checklists, budget tips, wedding planning tips etc. These will help you organize your time and have something to help you with all the important stuff you need to keep in mind when planning your wedding. You can also use the internet to look up new and innovative ideas that you can incorporate in your wedding.

  6. DO NOT EXPERIMENT CLOSE TO THE WEDDING: This might seem obvious but it needs to be said. If you're a bride-to-be and want to experiment with hair colour, haircuts or even skin treatments, try it all way before the wedding. This way if things do not turn out as you expected, there's enough time for a fix up. You do not want to experiment too close to the actual wedding and then have to deal with a chemical peel gone wrong or a haircut that doesn't suit your face. That's definitely not going to help with your wedding planning stress right?

  7. TAKE TIME OUT FOR YOURSELF: As a bride-to-be, it's very important that you schedule some time off from all the wedding planning and spend it doing something that relaxes you. Taking time out for yourself will help you recharge and rejuvenate. Book yourself a luxurious spa and spend a day getting pampered. You deserve it. Planning a wedding is a difficult job and every once in a while you need to remind yourself that you're the bride and you need to look after yourself!
